Windows XP Shortkeys

Using shortkeys can make your performance much more faster and it also enhances your computer skills. Here you can find some hot keys for Windows XP. Most of these keyboard shortkeys are common to other applications and windows but some of them are specific.

F2 – Renames a selected file/folder

F3 – Searches for a file or folder on computer drives

F4 – Selects the Go to a Different Folder box and moves down entries

F5 – Refreshes the current window

F6 – Moves among different panes in Windows Explorer

F10 – Activates menu bar in active program/application

Esc Key – Cancels a running task/application

Backspace Key – Switches to the parent folder

Right Arrow Key – Opens next menu to right or opens a sub-menu

Left Arrow Key – Opens the next menu in left or closes a sub-menu

Ctrl + A – Selects all files and folder of a location

Ctrl + C – Copies a selected file/folder or object

Ctrl + V – Pastes a cut/copied file/folder or object

Ctrl + X – Cuts a selected file/folder or object

Ctrl + Z – Undo the last action

Ctrl + F4 – closes all active file/folders and programs

Ctrl + Esc – Opens Start menu

Shift Key – Prevents CD drive to run CD automatically

Shift + Delete – Deletes a selected file/folder permanently

Shift + F10 – Displays a shortcut menu of a selected program/application

Alt + F4 – Closes the active file/folder or program

Alt + Enter Key – Displays properties of a selected file/folder or object

Alt + Tab Key – Switches between active file/folders and programs

Alt + Spacebar – Opens system menu for active window

Alt + Spacebar + C – Closes a single active window

Alt + Spacebar + M – Moves the active window

Alt + Spacebar + N – Minimizes a single active window

Alt + Spacebar + R – Restores the active window

Alt + Spacebar + X – Maximizes a single active window

Win Key – Opens Start menu

Win + R – Opens Run dialogue box

Win + M – Minimizes all opened files/folders at once

Win + Shift + M – Maximizes all opened files/folders at once

Win + D – Minimizes all windows for Show Desktop action

Win + E – Opens My Computer window

Win + F – Opens Search options for Windows

Win + L – Locks keyboard

Win + U – Opens Utility Manager

Win + F1 – Opens Help and Support Center page of Windows

Win + Pause – Displays System Properties dialogue box

Win + Tab – Moves through taskbar programs

Win + F + Ctrl – Open Search options for computer

Ctrl + Alt + Delete – Opens Windows Task Manager

Ctrl + Shift Esc – Opens Windows Task Manager

Shift + Right Click Key – Displays shortcut menu with alternative commands
