Using Shrinking and Wrapping Features in Excel

An exclusive feature of MS Excel is to fit the data in cells by shrinking it. Actually the data of cell is fitted within column width by reducing font size and this font size changes automatically when width of column is changed.

Shrinking Data

If you want to shrink data into cells, perform following steps:

Select a cell or range of cells.

From Format menu, select Cells.

Press shortcut key Ctrl+1 and you will see Format Cells dialog box appeared on your computer screen.

Click on Alignment tab of that dialog box.

Select “Shrink to Fit” check box and click OK button to save settings.

Wrapping the Data

Storing data within specified width of columns in multiple lines in form of paragraph is known as wrapping the data in cells. To apply wrap text, follow these steps:

From Format menu, select Cells command or use shortcut key Ctrl+1. A dialog box will appear having a title Format Cells.

Click on Alignment tab of that dialog box.

Select “Wrap text” check box.

Click OK to save settings.
